Services

Working with me

USING A LAWYER shouldn’t feel like stepping into a stuffy boardroom filled with pretentious corporate types — or like you’ve accidentally signed up for a four-figure headache.

Clients come to me because I translate complex legal issues into plain English, bring clarity without ego, and offer advice that’s both sharp and sensitive. Whether I’m creating T&Cs for a new tech start-up, advising an author on how to resolve a dispute with their publisher, or helping a production company understand the risks and benefits behind AI-powered software, I know what matters in the real world — not just on paper.

I typically follow the steps outlined below, and I’m always happy to tailor the scope to suit a client’s needs and budget.

Phase 3

Phase 1

DISCOVERY CALL

You'll first email me or book a free 30 minute call to discuss what you need, what’s at stake, and where you’re hoping to end up. We'll identify the relevant service you need and explore your broader requirements or concerns.

Phase 2

PROPOSAL

& ONBOARDING

After our initial email exchange &/or call, you’ll receive a tailored proposal for next steps — usually with two or three options depending on complexity, urgency, and your preferences. If you're happy to proceed, I'll send over an engagement letter to onboard you with my law firm, Reviewed & Cleared (regulated in England & Wales).

KICK-OFF

& RESEARCH

Once onboarded, we can dive into the details and for certain matters, I may also provide a short questionnaire to capture information quickly and efficiently. I’ll work to understand your goals and concerns in order to ensure my advice is both legally sound and practical, and pay particular attention to your business strategy and any power dynamics or nuanced risks.

Phase 4

WORK IN

PROGRESS

During this phase I'll carry out the core legal work — analysing your matter, drafting documents, and preparing advice based on everything we’ve discussed. I’ll keep you informed as things progress, flag any unexpected issues, and ask clarifying questions as needed. You won’t be left guessing what’s happening or when to expect the delivery.

Phase 5

DELIVERY

You’ll receive the first draft, advice note, or legal document, and will be invited to review it via email or book a client call to walk through it. An initial feedback round is always included in the original fee, and once I’ve made any necessary changes, I'll send over a final version ready for you to sign, implement, or send.

Phase 6

COMPLETION

& INVOICING

Once you confirm the deliverable is complete — whether that’s a contract ready to sign, a policy ready to publish, or advice you’re ready to act on — the matter formally concludes and most often, this is also when I'll issue my invoice.

But if things evolve, I’m still here. You might want help responding to pushback, or navigating a follow-up issue that surfaces. In most cases, we can simply build in the extra support as a small extension of the original brief, or move onto a new scope.

Optional

RETAINERS &

HELPDESKS

Many clients like having a lawyer in their corner for sense-checking, quick questions, or unexpected curveballs that pop up after a project wraps. I offer a flexible helpdesk arrangement, ideal for ad hoc advice, fast-turnaround feedback, or light-touch contract tweaks—without needing to scope out a full new project. You can purchase a block of hours up front at a discounted rate, and use them as needed.

It’s legal support that adapts to how you actually work.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

Kelsey has been a joy to work with from start to finish. She held our hand through all the various processes and made sure we understood everything and were happy and comfortable with all our contracts. No question was too big or small, and she really listened to what we needed as a business at that crucial time. Professional and approachable, we can't recommend her enough.

Kelsey is extremely knowledgable, pragmatic, resilient, efficient and sensible.

Her understanding of commercial risk and ability to advise at pace on complex contracts was massively appreciated at a time of immense change in our organisation.

Contracts & Policies

Well-structured contracts are essential for managing rights and risk, but a strong contract does more — it shapes how relationships are maintained, how projects are developed, and how disputes are prevented or resolved.

I work closely with clients to ensure their contracts are legally robust without loopholes or unecessary jargon. Whether drafting new agreements, negotiating the terms of a project, or explaining what an existing contract means in plain English, I provide clear, practical advice tailored to the realities of each deal and the people behind it.

Kelsey's story

About Kelsey

Named as a “Rising Star – one of the UK’s Best Up and Coming Female Lawyers” in 2023 by Law.com, I am a media and entertainment lawyer and recognised as one of Europe’s foremost legal authorities on AI-generated content. My expertise bridges the gap between traditional media law and new technologies.

I support a variety of clients across the audiovisual, publishing, and media sectors, as well as those in the creative and performing arts. As an intellectual property and technology contracts lawyer by background, my specialism lies in advising on the intersection of personality (publicity) rights, copyright, and the use of GenAI such as deepfakes. I also offer expert advice on media contracts, IP and reputation management, privacy, branding, and Internet regulations.

In addition to my day job as a lawyer, I regularly speak at industry events and have appeared on several news programmes to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. My research contributions appear in academic textbooks, peer-reviewed journals, and government policy publications. I am also an advisory board member of vera.ai, an EU initiative for media and journalism professionals to combat disinformation and misinformation.

Originally from the West Coast of the United States, I bring an international perspective to my practice. After qualifying as a solicitor (England & Wales) in 2018, I obtained a diploma from Harvard Law School’s CopyrightX course. When not at my desk, I enjoy exploring London and beyond with my husband and young son.
